Not every story has to always start at the beginning. An unforeseen prequel to an existing story can deliver new meaning and create fresh excitement.

Vega Records’ latest release “A New Day” features the R & B music legend and vocalist Caron Wheeler. She is widely known for her writing and singing lead vocals on two of the biggest hits of Soul II Soul, “Keep on Moving” and “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)”. The latter won the group a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. This new release “A New Day” by Vega Records features remixes from the Master of House Louie Vega himself, Ron Trent, Timmy Regisford and Adam Rios.

The collection of remixes serve as a prequel to Louie Vega’s latest album, “Louie Vega Starring.XXVIII”, which ambitiously features 25 artists on 28 different songs. The scope and execution of the album is masterful and will be a record that breaks in dance floors all around the globe and serves to inspire future musicians. The bridge between the album and “A New Day” is the no. 28. A number that previously was an empty vessel waiting to be filled. Vega made the number part of his brand and filled it with musical and artistic meaning.

“A New Day” with lyrics by Caron Wheeler starts off with a powerful spoken word by Soul 2 Soul’s own Grammy Winner Jazzie B speaking and chanting the no. 28 and describing it as where freedom begins and where all of us can be independent thinkers, bringing forth self belief, value, integrity and more inspiring words courtesy of poet Desiree Meneces. The chant continues and then followed by percussive clashes, cymbals and a driving beat. The silky piano and killer bass groove arrangement that follows cuts the masculine energy in the room and begins to hypnotize listeners. While the loud and boisterous percussion sent a physical message, the piano arrangement understands that entrancing listeners is more effective than brute force. The piano arrangement played by keyboardist Axel Tosca evolves into an elegant procession of a genius chord cycle as beautiful vocals start to announce their entrance. Caron Wheeler is in the house! She uses her voice as an instrument and it serves as the perfect partner to the speed and flow of the song’s melody.

“All I want is a New Day.take a chance and try again.”

Wheeler’s lyrics paint an image of what she wants her world to be. This is power of artists and their craft. They can make us suspend reality, not as a childish escape, but as a way to push our expectations and strive for greatness. They dare us to dream. Towards the end, Louie Vega peppers in a magical and funky wurlitzer melody and solo (played by keboardist Axel Tosca) as the sun sets on his remix of “A New Day.”

Another remix included in this special release is by Ron Trent, a Chicago legend & native and familiar face in the dance worlds of house, tech house, experimental fusion in dance and disco. His label “Prescription” is widely regarded as one of the most influential deep house imprints. And boy does this remix by Ron Trent have deep house written all over it. The track is indigenous. There is more thump and bump, percussion, rhodes, piano and synths. One can imagine this remix stretching the limits of the sound system at Roots Nyc @ Cielo, Ministry of Sound in London, & Contact in Tokyo and sending the dance pit into a frenzy. The beat feels like a threatening knock at the door, but for some reason it makes you want to dance and not run away in self-preservation. The song makes you run towards danger as the congas also start banging, passionately pleading for you to let the party in. Wheeler’s vocals finally kick the door down to let a “A New Day” be enjoyed by the masses.

Then comes in the Timmy Regisford & Adam Rios Remix. And the boys really went in! They commission Tiger Wilson (keyboardist and artist in his own right) and other musicians, who lay down a funky bassline and dope chords on the Raw mix that hits you the second you play the track, guaranteed to drive any dancefloor wild. They also provide us with the Shelter Mix which speaks for itself and lives up to the Shelter landmark name. Bringing you the elements that would take you to a higher level in a way only Timmy, Adam, and Tiger Wilson can. The “A New Day” remix package is pure ELEVATION with some of the best in the business at the helm!!!!

Be sure to pick up “New Day” at Vega Records, at all digital outlets and participating distributors. Out soon on Vinyl too.
